    Ummmm....wouldn't a Grendel necked-up to .30....be a 7.62X39?

Almost, it would be a 7.62x39 Improved like many of the old Ackley cartridges.

Very similar ballistics but the .30 Gremlin produces more power. The .30 Gremlin is reloadable. Daniel Horner is using a 125 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips to 2625fps making 328 power factor (aka Major).

7.62x39 mm ammo typically only has a 123gr projectile going 2300fps making only 282 power factor (aka Minor). Major is 320 and up.

The reason Major power factor is desirable for 3gun is that in some three gun if you're shooting a Major caliber for rifle you only have to have one good hit (an A or C or head hit) zone neutralize a target. With Minor power factor two hits are required. Under USPSA rules Multi-gun the scoring for points is also better for Major.

Saw him and Robbie use it at Area 6 MG Championship last month. Tod spoke to DH about it and got a case, its the 65 G necked up to 30 cal and the AMU guys used a un named powder. So really the only thing grendel was the brass.
