I dont see it as being a problem, but the ATF might...I'd call them from a payphone and anonymously ask

Lock it up somewhere. I have a spare 14.5 in my locker. I had an 11.5" stashed for years before I SBR'd a lower and subsequently built it.

    Thomas:
Since the flash hider is already pinned and welded to the 14.5" barrel, bringing it to a legal 16" (right?), it SHOULD be kosher here in Alabama.

Of course, I'm not ATF, or a lawyer, so, take it with a grain of salt.

He is referring to his second barrel (spare) which is stripped and does not have a flash hider permed into place.

Why not just get the spare pinned and welded? It's ready to go whenever you're ready for it then.

I might just do a spare upper but i was wanting to do the barrel swap my self when the time came but I still have a long way away from that point so there is no hurry.

If centurion arms releases a 14.5 m4 GI contour then I will get one for a spare.
other barrels that I am considering colt, saber def, or a lmt .

I wouldn't. If he gets into a pinch and has to sell it, it'll have more value as an unadulterated barrel. The next owner still has the option to perm it if he chooses.
