What is the shortest & lightest stock out?

Hi, there Im in the process of by second build and wanting to go with a 16 inch over all barrel length that includes the flash hider. I want to get the over all weapon length down as short as possible and minimize the weight to the weapon. Whats the shortest stock and lightest stock on the market? Keep in mind im building on a Mil-spec lower.

Any other info. on how I can cut an inch here or there off of the overall weapon length would be a big help. Thanks for all you great info.....

I think you'd be better off getting a magpul stock and calling it good. Why? Anything that's measurably lighter is probably going to be weaker too. Besides, magpul stuff is built as tough as a brick shithouse.

As far as losing any more length...they don't make a shorter receiver that I know of, so if you've got a 16.25" OAL barrel and flashhider, the only other thing you could do is take off the rubber butt pad on the magpul stock (assuming you used that one) to save you a 1/2" or so.

Honestly though, most stocks are going to be withing a few ounces of each other. Unless you're going to be humping this rifle around for miles on end, is it really going to make a big difference? Lift weights, problem solved.

the old CAR stocks are definately light and short, but i wouldn't go with anything less than M4.. the CAR stocks on the market are usually ultra cheap POS plastic crap.

CAR fiberlite (as shown by sapper36) is shortest and lightest of the stocks I have on hand:

CAR fiberlite stock body = 4.6 oz
Colt 6920 stock body = 6.6 oz (5.7 oz w/o metal sling mount)
BCM M4 stock body = 7.7 oz (6.8 oz w/o metal sling mount)
Magpul MOE stock body = 8.3 oz

But, the lower receiver extension (AKA buffer tube) is the same length, so your total collapsed overall length won't change at all.

actually, overall length is affected by your stock- a lot of stocks dont collapse to within 1" of the end of the receiver extension. even the M4s extend past the RE as much as 3/4".. and since a lot of these stocks listed have additional buttpads and plates and such, that shoots it out even farther.

ACE makes some pretty light stocks. But I'd go with a Magpul over 'em.

Your best bet would be:

1. LMT M4 Gen 2 stock

2. BCM M4 Gen 2 stock

3. Magpul Moe/CTR

Not too hard to find take offs from 6920s and LMTs if you look around. I just got a LMT take off for $25.
