I purchased 4 pounds of this stuff. The velocity listed in the manuals is about 200 fps faster with the heavier bullets with this stuff. Any down sides to it. I heard it burns hotter.

I use it as my primary powder for my 223ai and my .308 bolt guns. Good powder that meters well, and I see not temperature sensitivity issues....but I am not crazy about loading hot either.
I have only used TAC in my bolt guns.

"These", meaning TAC powder ? sorry to inform you, but i contacted a Ramshot/Western Powders Inc., ballistics technician and he sent me some reloading data for use in the 5.56mm for different bullet weights, here it is:These are for bolt guns only as well.

it is the same as found in their load data guide, found here: Ramshot Load Guide V4.3a.pdf
My bad, I was typing with a screaming baby in my lap. By "this is for bolt guns only", I meant I've only used this powder for those two rifles, which are my bolt guns only...not gas guns.
I did buy an 8lb jug for ar-15 load development, but haven't got around to it yet.
apologies for the confusion.
Naval Surface Warfare Center - Crane bought a bunch of HSM 5.56mm loaded with TAC powder and Sierra 77s for the Navy Shooting Teams and the Fleet and Navy Matches from 1999 thru around 2001 or 2002.
Apparently it meters very well due to its spherical shape and is very consistent velocity-wise. If I remember correctly the rounds were very accurate although the Navy's load was a little slow. I don't remember velocities or numbers but everybody who shot the matches shot issue ammo -- no handloads -- and all competitors shot it to 500 yards out of M16s.

That early stuff was slow. 2000 and 2001 was white box BHA with Winchester cases. It was almost like lobbing it into the target. The new stuff in the brown box is outstanding. The best lot I've shot has been 08. The other stuff is good too but the 08 lot wins hands down.

Now that you mention it we did shoot the Black Hills in 01 and 02. I bought orange box HSM 77s at Perry in '99.
Dan, supposedly the newest 262 since 2006 has the improved General Dynamics - Saint Marks powder. It's supposed to push the bullets even faster.
Sure do -- I believe he's Double Distinguished now.
Shot with him at Boulder City near Vegas in '04 or '05 and his name shows up on this year's PACFLEET roster and results but I didn't see him (I shot pistol only this year -- I suck at it but am going to Perry for one-handed this year for the first time).
I think one of the mods here claimed Ramshot TAC as the official powder of M4C.
I use 24.5gr with 55gr for my "plinking" round, 2863 avg vel.
For 62gr SS109 pulled, 25gr with 2926 avg vel.
