A good plan, too. Teach them that there are tools we use, and tools require responsibility.
My daughter got a Swiss Army Knife that way when she was around 12, I think. She's turning 17 next month, and gets a Benchmade folder.
If she keeps her grades up, and does well on other responsibilities, there's an LMT carbine waiting for her when she turns 18. Plus a dozen PMags, a thousand rounds of ammo, etc.
Life's lessons can sometimes be fun for your children, if you raise them right.
