    Need Load Data for SS109 62Gr

    Ok, it's done. my Buddy upgraded his Dillon 550 to reload 223/5.56
    Now I need some load data for the SS109 Bullets, we plan on getting 748 Powder and CCI #41 Primers.

    I did not have good luck with 748. I did have very good luck with AA2230 and IMR4895. I'll look up my numbers when I get home tonight.

    There's nothing wrong with Winchester 748, although some firearms might do better with another powder. I've found it works very well with 55-60 grain bullets. I use 26.5 grs. for 55s and 26 grs. for 60 grain Hornady V-Max bullets. What this means is that you should work up to max loads for safety reasons. You might also want to try Ramshot TAC as that meters well, also.

    I run 24gr of 748 behind 62gr for casual shooting with no issues. If memory serves, that puts it in the 2800-2900 range.

    Best accuracy with pulled 62 grain steel penetrator bullets was obtained with 23.5grains of bl-c(2) out of rem brass. No chrono so I am not sure of velocity, but I could consistantly shoot into an inch with my scoped colt 6940. I worked up to about 24.5 grains if I remember and accuracy went downhill the hotter I got.
    I will have to check my load book also, but as I recall, Win 748 was not all that great with the 62 grainers. YMMV

    W748, BLC-2, and H335 are often considered to be the same powder packaged for different vendors. Burn rate variation between the three are generally equal to burn rate variations found in lot to lot differences within each.

    H335 and BLC-2 are different. Both are Hodgdon powders.

    WC 844 is used in 5.56x45 NATO
    WC 846 is used in 7.62x51 NATO

    WC844 = (H335) and WC846 = (BLC2)

    I believe that is pretty much what I am using in a Lake City case with a CCI 41 primer.

    As was mentioned, H335 and BLC-2 are not the same. My understanding is W748 and BLC-2 are the same or close enough. But, if you look at the loading data (see the URL below) the W748 and BLC-2 loads for the same bullet are different max loads and in one case the max difference is 2gr with the lower load having higher pressure... So I don't know what to think of the idea that W748 is relabeled BLC-2.

    However, always check your data and work your loads up. Hodgdon and Winchester powders are both by the same company (who also does IMR now as well)...

    Look at http://www.hodgdon.com/
