Tell me why I should have a 6.8mm AR

Is there any reason for a 6.8mm AR-15? I have been considering one of these for a while, but the high cost of ammunition has kept me away.

    Thank you

I think posts like this are a little odd, so I won't comment other than to say that ammunition for the 6.8 is no more expensive than the 5.56 when you compare rounds of similar quality. True, there are no cheap blasting rounds for 6.8, but if you compare quality match ammo across both calibers you'll find the prices almost identical.

I am thinking of building one or maybe a 6.5 Grendel. If you are planning to do any hunting of mid size game, I would say it would be a great choice.

Only reason is if you want it.

I got a big 6.5 Grendel upper and like it so well I have things on order to build my first carbine.

I think that if you have to ask, you don't need it.
The 6.8 is designed to fill gaps in performance.
If 5.56/.223 is doing what you want them to do, what need is there to spend money on something else?

That being said, I think that the 6.8SPC is great.

I bought one for Deer hunting....but It's lookin like it will take a back seat again this season. My 7mm Rem Mag just gives me that fuzzy feeling.

    I could not agree more.

You pay to play, if you do not reload, then your going to be getting some great ammunition from the companies who mfg 6.8 currently and their quality is on par with that of their 5.56 line.
Since the round does not have surplus available its going to cost more per round (again unless you reload).

Hornady and SSA are the two companies I am referring to.

CorBon also loads for the 6.8 however I have not shot any of the 6.8 ammo. That said I heard they may be expanding it here in the near future.

Those using 6.8 rifles whether for hunting, LEO, self defense or fun, cannot say enough good things about it.

Plainly, because it is the best all-around caliber which fits in the AR-15 platform, and it is supported by plenty of manufacturers.
