    Thanks Jason.

Thank you very much... as it seems that no one seems to wants to buy the vest so I guess I will make it usable for me...

Two things. First, this is supposed to be more than a picture thread so we'd like to hear more about why you chose the parts and pieces you have, how it's working out for you and in what applications, what prior gear you used that led you to this stuff, etc. Second, and along those lines, why would you use a plate carrier and then not put any plates in it? Aren't there better choices for attaching magazines to your chest than a plate carrier if you're not going to use the armor?

The US Palm Defender comes with Level III Soft Armor that is cut into the same shape as the Large E-SAPI plate. This way you get some pistol protection and can upgrade to rifle plates if you would like. The rig is low profile and light, that's what I was looking for. I didn't want the ability to carry a ton of mags. The nice thing is it's easy to get on and does not get in the way of a standard CCW style pistol belt holster and mag pouches. I didn't want to put my pistol up on the chest rig, as this in not normally how I run a pistol. So it's nice having gear that works with strong side belt carry of the holster.

Money makes the world go rounds and it makes rifle plates pop into your gear... I don't have money for rifle plates so Level III is better than nothing. I've had a couple other chest rigs in the past and felt they were too big for what I'd like so they went to the wayside.

The last one I tried was the OSOE Micro Rig which was built well, but I couldn't stand having the thickness of two mags in each pouch and prefer to only have one mag per pouch to keep it simple. I'm sure there are other ways to attach mags to your chest, but this one works well, it's simple and the whole thing is priced well.

If that doesn't answer your question, let me know...

Let me restate something that was posted on page 1 and a lot of people seem to be missing.

    1. Title your post 'Range loadout', 'Contractor loadout', 'LE loadout', 'Military combat loadout', '3-gun match loadout', 'Home defense loadout' etc, or whatever best describes how the gear is used.

    2. List the items in the photos.

    3. Include a brief description of why you made the equipment choices you did and any other info you'd like to include.

    LE Loadout

Let me start by saying that I am in no way ANY expert in load outs and I’ll take any constructive criticism and I want to apologize in advance if I screw up my terminology. My need/mission is slightly different than the average law enforcement officer. I am a Sergeant for a major Metropolitan Police Department and am currently assigned to an administrative position. But I am consistently put back on regular patrol every six weeks for a week, they call it redeployment. My office is located right in the heart of the city and houses several different city agencies such as parole and probation, Public Housing, DMV, Domestic Dispute Center, etc. In the realm of things, to me, this is a target rich environment. Any city department who is anything of value has an office in here. And the many buildings in the block are also high risk. In this specific building, we have already had an active shooter situation which cost officers their lives. Also, there have been other armed attempts that have been thwarted. I’m not just worrying about me responding to an active shooter situation but actually being at the scene at the time it starts. What I mean, is that I would be working my out than working my way in - or I need to do something from the inside to let others in.

Besides my duty belt, my Department basically doesn’t provide us with anything for active shooter situations (plates/lights/etc). The only thing we have is a rifle (M16A1 converted to single shot) which we received from the 1030 program. Our standard firearm (for patrol) is a Glock 17 with three (3) magazines. Some of our firearms are so old that we don’t even have a rail on it (REAL early Generation Glocks). Luckily, mine does. At first, my load out was fairly simple – my rifle, my Glock, vest (First Choice Armor Level 3A), and a Blackhawk Drop Down Leg Pouch that holds two 30rd PMags and two Glock Magazines. Before, when I was assigned to patrol and started reading/learning on here, I thought my biggest threat was that I was going to drive up on an active shooter situation so I wanted to be able to get out and engage the threat without pulling out a whole bunch of crap. The leg drop down allowed me to do that and didn’t know a damn thing about ballistic plates. I am not a big guy (5’9” 170 lbs) so bulk/weight is a concern for me.

My new assignment made me re-evaluate my situation. My goal was to be able to engage a threat that is occurring in my own workplace and protect myself. I actually walked the building and started thinking about scenarios and what I could come against. I was concerned about doors barricaded/chained, gunfire smoke, fire extinguisher smoke, etc. I’m not one of these guys who eat and sleeps police, we call them “tackleberries”. But, I do think being prepared is important. So, here is my current load out (in addition to previously mentioned):

    • SKD Pig Plate Carrier
    • (2) 10x12 MSA Paraclete Level III Plates
    • (2) 6x6 MSA Paraclete Boron Stealth Side Plates
    • (5) 30 rd P-Mags (Federal .223 T22E 55gr Sierra Gameking BTHP) (3 in vest and 2 on drop down)
    • Flexcuffs
    • (3) Chemlights
    • Streamlight TLR-1S Weapon Mounted Light
    • Inova T4 LED Flashlight

    • O-Light M20 Warrior Flashlight
    • 18” Bolt Cutters (Lowes)
    • Maxpedition Fight Medical Pouch containing: (2) Quickclots, (1) SWAT – T Tourniquet, (3) 5x9 ABD pads, (2) 3x4 non adherent pads, (2) 4x4 sponges
    • Zero Tolerance 350 Folding knife

What I would like to add:

    • Hearing/eye protection
    • door wedges

    • Another tourniquet (revamp med kit)
    • Thinking about some sort of prybar such as http://www.columbussupply.com/produc...=141&price=118

Some people ask why I purchased a back plate and side plates. Since I work in the city, there are a LOT of places someone can just sit and pick off first responders (elevated, etc). Also there is a LOT of different agencies in my area and a some of them are carrying high powered rifles. The training program for our department for using our patrol rifles isn’t the best… Friendly fire can be a bitch and is definitely a concern when everyone and their mother wants to get involved. I see a lot of people getting...uh.."confused" in their mission when they start putting these together. My mission is clear - stop the threat. My medic kit is just meant for me and my team if need be. Im there to clear the way for the real medics to come in.

BTW – I really like the SKD and Ill post something about it later. I dont have anyone here right now to take pics with setup on. But they will come..

    General Preparedness/Training

A lot of us in here seem to be preparing for something. This is a thread for informative posts geared towards giving others preparing for disaster ideas as to tactics, gear, supplies etc... Post pics to help give others an idea or to critique your own.

While there are a lot of things to prepare for (Civil unrest, crashed economy etc..), the thing thats the most imminent threat for me is a hurricane Katrina part II. I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, in a very nice area about 15 miles inland from the Coast and a ten min straight shot drive from an extremely poor area (mostly uneducated migrant workers) with a high crime rate under ideal circumstances. Katrina changed the way I prepare for hurricanes now. There is a good possibility all the low life from surrounding areas will move to my area as most of the poorer areas are low, and prone to flooding, the area where I live is higher, and has a lot of nice houses, walmarts and grocery stores to loot.

In case of a power outage (when Katrina hit LOUISIANA the power in my area was out for two weeks) I plan on using this gear to, stand watch with neighbors in the neighborhood, and keep it in the truck for tansiting to/from the places I fish/hunt or the family property. While in public (such as outside the truck fishing, going to the store etc..) I purchased a Raven Concealment Phantom with Two spare mag pouches and a carrier for my G2. If SHTF around here, I'm goin fishing and hunting for my food if need be.

I set it up as sort of an all in one rig for training and general preparedness. I can throw on the rig and have everything I need right there. Chest Rig is an SKD/Eagle and the pack is an Eagle AIII. (note: I am considering replacing the eagle with a Yote for day long stuff). Its light, and quick to put on. The pack (with water) weighs in at 20 lbs.

    Chest Rig:
    -6 Primary Mags
    -2 Secondary Mags
-CRKT Folder and Surefire G2 (in other secondary mag pouch)
-Basic first aid (left side green pouch)
-Multi tool, spare batteries for light and optic, compass, weapons lube and rag (right side green pouch)
-Maps of my area (internal map pocket)
    -Secondary Weapon

    Three Day Pack:

    Outside Pocket
    -IFAK (outside pocket)

    Middle Pocket
    -Lighter
-Fire Starting (magnesium, small (fake) firestarting sticks, steel wool)
    -Weapons Cleaning Kit
-Spare batteries for light, GPS and optic
    -Toilet Paper
    -Soap/Sanitizer
    -Basic eating utensils
    -Water purification tablets
    -SOG Seal Pup and sharpener
-Pen, Pencil, Paper, Compass, More maps (state and immediate area)
    -GPS
    -Red/Green glow sticks
    -Insect Repellant
    -Sunscrean
    -Porn

    Main Pocket
    -Paracord
-Food (Backpacker pantry stuff, peanut butter and some CLIFF bars)
-3L Hydration bladder (in hydration bladder pocket)
    -Clean socks/Underwear in ziplock bag.

I hike with the pack often on day and two day hikes, I know I can easily live out of it for two days and have enough supplies to easily go three. I'm also looking at various tomahawks to add to the outside of the pack. I'm eyeballing the SOG version as it seems pretty cost effective and tough.

I also have a walk in pantry full of enough rice, canned goods, dried food and bottled water to last my self and family a month or so eating very well. We have an outdoor kitchen that runs off of propane and we keep several bottles stockpiled. We also have plenty of bottled water and a a well, and a vegetable garden. I also have several thousand rounds of 9mm and 5.56 stockpiled a long with spare parts for weapons.
