Another noon question here.
Is it reasonable to assume that it is safe and possible to run 6.8spc through a standard 5.56 NATO lower obvoiusly with the proper upper assymbly? Would the 5.56 mags be used or are there purpose built mags?

Yes the lowers are the same on 5.56 and 6.8, you just need the 6.8 upper/barrel and the 6.8 bolt. You also need 6.8 magazines, my suggestion would be Barrett. Check the 68forums there is a wealth of knowledge on the 6.8 round.
"There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion." — Gen. William Thornson, U.S. Army
6.8 was designed to be run through platforms designed for 5.56. Lowers and uppers on the AR platform are the same. The magazines are different.
All things being equal (i.e. being from the same manufacturer) the only difference between a 6.8 rifle/upper and a 5.56 rifle/upper is the bolt, barrel, magazines.
A perfect example to answer the OP question is the LMT MRP. I have both the 5.56 bolt/barrel and the 6.8 bolt/barrel. The upper and lower does not change, only the bolt, barrel, and magazines.
Yes, you can run 6.8 through a 5.56 lower as long as you have the correct bolt/barrel in your upper.
Wow good fast info thanks guys. Unfortunatly I'm in the gun loving state of Ca. Anyone know where I can get some good 10rnd mags? I don't seem to see any on magpuls site.
