Wow, who made that bolt? What is the logic behind the cut away section of that bolt lug?
It's probably their version of Armalite's deprecated lug. Armalite's design is patented, so other mfg's who want to design bolts with symmetrical loading have to come up with a different mousetrap. I'm guessing the thin section is designed to flex a bit allowing more of the loading to fall symetrically on the remaining six lugs.
Or, it could have nothing to do with any of the above.

I saw those at the Alexander Arms booth at the SHOT show last year. IIRC those are the heavy duty bolts. Believe me Bill Alexander knows what he's doing, that bolt will outlast standard bolts.
