LEOs, what do you carry on duty?

Im about a month out from graduating the academy and just curious to see what others out there are carrying. Also, what would you carry if you could choose your duty weapon? Right now I'm planning on running my Glock 17 depending on where I get hired.

I carry a Springfield Professional Operator right now. The only thing that could pry it from my side right now would/will be my John Jardine customized Colt whenever it is finished.

At this chapter of your career the Glock 17 or whatever they issue you will work just fine. Concentrate on passing FTO and probation and worry about guns and other stuff later.

Regretfully a Ruger P89, department issue.
A citizen noted the hammer back on the 1911 carried in the waist band by Charlie Miller, Texas Ranger. The Citizen asks, "Isn't That Dangerous?" Charley replied, " I wouldn't carry the son of a bitch if it wasn't dangerous."

Before you buy, what's the depart issue, do they offer a optional duty pistol program, what caliber, and what were you trained with Beretta, Glock, S&W, HK, etc. in the police academy?

I carry the Glock 22, we issue the S&W MP 40. The Glocks and S&W MP works fine.

    Issued: M&P40 Fullsize

If I could pick I'd still go with the M&P40 or 45 with the option of changing the stock novak's night sights to straight 8's. Add a weapon light (currently only swat and another special unit are allowed to have lights on their pistols) and I'd be good to go. Love the M&P, by far the best gun the department has ever issued.

Good luck to you. Listen to your FTO(s) and ask questions. Pay attention, stay alert, and write great reports. They are a reflection of you and your department. You never know how many people will be reading them.

And NEVER GIVE UP! You will go home at the end of every shift.

To answer your question, I am issued a Sig P229 DAK in .357 sig. The ammo is 125gr Speer Gold dot. We just switched. We used to carry SW 4043's that had seen better days. I like the way the .357 sig shoots over the .40. If I could have picked my own, I would carry a Glock 31. I like glock trigger pull better than the DAK. Whatever you are ultimately issued or if you can pick your own, practice, practice, practice with it.
