Yep. After you remove it you can attach a rear flip-up iron sight and an optic of your choice.

Does Colt offer a mid length set up?

Colt doesn't offer any midlengths at this time. However, the Colt 6920 is the rifle by which all others are judged by. So, it will likely take you many thousands of dollars worth of ammo and years of abuse to wear it out. A midlength system on a 16" barrel does reduce parts wear and "slightly" reduces recoil, but you'll be really hard pressed to wear out the 6920.

Yes. It is, in fact, necessary to buy an entire new rear sight or hacksaw the carrying handle if you want to mount an optic to the rifle.

This is one of the primary arguments, in my mind, for going with a weapon like the Daniel Defense XV or M4 over the 6920. The 6920 is a superb rifle to be sure, but the Daniel Defense guns offer the same quality and quality control with an optics-ready BUIS (backup iron sight) and an improved buttstock. When you see guys with 6920's it's rare to see them using the factory carry handle sight and the factory buttstock. By including those items from the box the DD M4/XV saves a few bucks in the configuration process.

Does Colt offer a mid length set up?

That I don't know. The 6920 label refers to a weapon built with a carbine length gas system, which has proven to be plenty reliable over the years with the right ammo and maintenance. You can't buy a mid-length 6920 because it doesn't exist. I know you can buy quality mid-length setups from suppliers like BCM. Daniel Defense is bringing one out soon as well.

IDK, but it's kind of SOP. Eventually most get the DL and are GTG. YMMV.

You have to remember that you're dealing with an area of knowledge heavily influenced by the military and the government in general...and in those circles abbreviations are a language unto themselves. If you are struggling with an abbreviation, by all means ask about it. Nobody will confiscate your man card.

Colt 6920=Excellent weapon. Take off the carry handle and put on a quality BUIS like a Troy folder; expensive but well made. Both the CQB and the longer range sight-there are two that can be flipped for the situation, both integral to the rear sight- work well for me. Worth the $140. Bought one for a 6933, liked it so much bought one for the 6920. Good choice on the rifle.

IMO the 6920 is an excellent rifle that will serve you for years to come. That being said though I feel it is no longer the top choice for several of the reasons JW_777 mentioned.

The midlength is gaining strength in the 16" barrel market and for good reasons with research and real world experience to back it up. Almost everyone uses an optic or RDS of some kind so the carry handle is a waste. Many will also upgrade their stocks and grips as well. Companies that make these simple changes will soon overtake the 6920's popularity unless Colt decides to catch up with what the market wants. I don't see this happening though.

None of that takes away from the fact that it is a great rifle but to me, Colt is the Glock if the AR world. They were the first to find what works and make a quality rifle and have pretty much sat on their asses since then living off contracts. Now that there are other companies that make rifles of equal or better quality they need to catch up with modern techniques and product demands.
