    FN BCG

So I bought this used bolt carrier group, it is a M16 carrier, the bolt says MP and J on it. It has FN marked on the side of the carrier. I just want to know if it is a real FN BCG or not. If it isn't I'm not too worried, it was fairly cheap. The extractor has a black o-ring too.

    IG,
Does FN use the LMT bolts in all their BCG's?

That's what I was thinking. Looks like an LMT bolt with the stress groove.

Me three. Its been a while since I have seen an FN bolt, but that does look like an LMT bolt, but I suppose it could be LMT for all I know. At any rate, it should be good to go.

What characteristics make it an LMT bolt?

LMT's patented and unique bolt design uses a lug relief at the roots on the rear of the lugs, which looks like a recessed ring just behind the bolt lugs just as you have in your picture.LMT also uses a single and or double letter lot# code such as AA,AC,J,M,Z etc. on the bottom side of the bolt and stamped MP on the top.
IMHO LMT's bolt design and bolts themselves are about the best available on the market,FWTW.

Ive never seen a FN bolt in person but the pics Ive seen the bolt/lug design is similar to Colt,DD,BCM etc..

Im curious if the LMT bolts are being frequently used as replacements by the Military, and hopefully IG can shed some light.
If so that would explain the constant shortage of LMT bolts and BCG's.

Not that I am aware of. Also, the LMT bolts I have seen have slightly different markings. Most of the stuff that I have been seeing is Colt. I'll see if I can check the Marine armory when I go over there next and look at their BCG's.
