    Lowering the underside of the trigger guard brings the muzzle lower in the hand, thus reducing muzzle flip/ felt recoil. The cuts forward allow an index point for the support hand index finger.

    Another function to this style of undercut is that it doesn't affect retention with certain holsters that rely on stock dimension of the trigger guard....like the Vanguard series.
