Question, do you guys paint your ar's to your surroundings or do you guys just paint your guns any way you want reguardless of evironment
Essentially for the environment. If you look at post# 2590 in this thread, you'll see my painted rifle in the local greenery, with a color scheme based on USN AOR2 which is a "woodland" pattern (although I didn't do it digital which is what actual AOR2 is).
I think a lot of people like to do desert patterns because of the recent wars, though, even if they themselves don't live in arid environment. I'm building a 723 clone inspired by BHD (more the movie than what would have been real, because my optic on the carry handle won't be period and neither were the ones in the movie), and am going to do a desert pattern on that. Similarly I'm building an XM177E2 clone and am going to do some diagonal stripes green strips on it (sort of a po boy tiger stripe) inspired by some period pictures I saw that I think were actually made with green tape on the originals (hitting it with a few swipes of OD rattlecan seems more robust than tape). Those are retro toys, though, while the rifle in post# 2590 (and related posts above that) is more of a go-to gun.
I'm going to put the same pattern as in post# 2590 (and related posts above that) on all my non-retro AR's and an M1A, when I get around to it. I'm thinking about a brush stroke pattern for a couple of modernized FAL projects, with a color scheme based on current Brazilian Army camo (http://www2.ttcn.ne.jp/camouflage/im...lianlizard.jpg) that I think will still work well in the local greenery (somehow a brush stroke pattern seems more appropriate on an FAL).
