I put a 1.5x Mini ACOG on my 10.5" 458 SOCOM and love the setup.
My 9inch 300 blackout has a Aimpoint compM and my 11.5inch 556 has an Aimpoint H1. I love both of them, however have found myself wanting something magnified. You could always run a magnifier with a red dot and have the ability to go 1x or magnified as opposed to one or the other.
Aimpoint set for low light and 35 yard encounters, ACOG handles everything else LOL.
Actually I prefer the ACOG for any coyote shots beyond 20 yards. It's fast enough to acquire a killing shot.

There are a good bit of people running low powered variable optics for CQB. Kyle Defoor has been recommending LPVO for years. Just try to get a true 1x if you really want to do cqb stuff. The vortex razor and the steiner scopes seem to be popular. I think there is a burris model too that seems to be good. I have personally used a LPVO Sig and was able to run it almost as good as my Aimpoint H-1.
I have an old Aimpoint Comp M2 and Aimpoint magnifier in a twist mount on my 13" middy.
I get a little oval distortion in the fattened-up dot when using the magnifier... and it's not the lightest setup out there by any means. But the gun is a just tack driver, and it's that fact that comes to mind every time I toy with the idea of something smaller/lighter. Don't mess with success.
I'm planning on putting a MRO Patrol on my 10inch SCAR SBR.
I am running a Aimpoint PRO on my 11.5 Sionics.
