Hi guys been thinking of a midlength lately, own all carbines here I know its been discussed like crazy but is the recoil significantly less with midlengths? Sorry if its been posted in other pages, thinking about a build for my young son

Yes, it has less recoil, not a huge difference, but it is there.

It is to the 16" barrel as the rifle length gas system is to a 20" barrel
