However, I think that a CCW which would be viewed as acceptable to be passed into law in New York would be highly restrictive to current CCW holders in many other states.
This...for those of us in gun friendly "shall issue states", the concern is the level of restrictions that would be required to reach and reciprocity consensus. I haven't voted yet, but would think most would welcome the idea, but are wary of the legal hoops, fees, etc that may accompany such a permit. If it's just a matter of background check, finger print, acceptable processing fee I think most would be on board. It shouldn't be harder or more expensive than renewing a driver's license provided you pass the criminal background.

National reciprocity would never happen unless there was a consensus on the who, what, where, and when of carry; I don't see it happening. Alabama might allow carry in a place that serves alcohol, Maine might not. Nevada says no to carry in casinos, Florida says it is okay, you get the picture. The way around that would be carraige under federal law, one set of standards and procedures. In this environment? I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to ever happen or appear in a form pleasing to all.

As far as a national carry permit or reciprocity, I am not for it. There is just too much variance between the laws, codes, and regulations of one jurisdiction and another for it to work without good intentioned people getting themselves in trouble. As far as piss-poor legislation is concerned, 18USC926B&C (LEOSA/HR218) are a great example; more holes than swiss cheese, no mechanism to make it work, more mis-interpretation than ARFCOM.

There is no national driving code and the laws are varied from state to state. Why would CC require any more cooperation than we already have between the states on driving, which is nothing? City, county or state, it is your onus to understand the laws of the current jurisdiction covering the activity you are engaged in no matter what it is.

LOL. At least one of those was in error. I inadvertently selected 'NO' and selected the 'Vote' button without reading what I had selected.

I wish there was an UNDO or "change my vote" option.

I agree. The Dems would try to kill the bill by any means, or to slip in poison pills to royally screw gun owners. I do not see a Dem congress passing this legislation, nor do I see POTUS signing it.
