    Odd M&P45 FS extraction issue

I recently bought a used M&P45 for training purposes, to suppliment my duty M&P45. I have fired approx 500 rds through it thus far, though I don't know how many the previous owner put through it. What I immideately realized was that while the pistol extracted perfectly fine when shooting, when I tried to manually extract a round (by pulling back on the slide), it would jam as the round would not come all of the way out of the chamber. Does anyone have any insight as to why this would be happening? Obviously this does not happen with my other M&P45 FS or my M&P45c. Thanks.

What ammo are you doing this with? If it is Winchester White Box, try something else and see if it still does it.

Most likely you just need a new extractor. It's not getting strong purchase on the rim of the case. It probably works after firing because the brass has expanded a bit and has been forced into the extractor groove allowing better purchase. It's probably only a matter of time before it fails to extract fired cases also.

I'd also look to see if the extrator is getting hung up anywhere. Make sure it is free to move along it's intended path and there are no burrs or debris in the way(it only moves a little bit but it does need to do so freely).

I think I have found the issue:

The M&P45 that works has the ejector on the bottom (shorter one). The one that does not has the one on the top (longer one). Both are the exact same gun (features/caliber/size/etc.). I have called S&W and they are sending a shipping label.

    Can anyone comment? Thanks.

Note: these are not my pics, found them on another forum.

That's a 45 sear housing block on the bottom and a 9/40/357 sear housing block on the top. They are not interchangable.

If your "bad" ejector is truly longer why not shorten it to the same length of the "good" ejector and see. If it does not work, then send it back to S&W.

The top pic is a 9mm/357/40 and the bottom is a .45

With some M&Ps it is hard the eject a live round because the live round is longer than an empty case. The M&P9c's can be really bad.

strange. The longer one is definitely in the malfunctioning 45 FS. I dont want to cut it down, as that might cause warrenty issues. I will just ship it back to Smith I guess....
