So I want to cut down my carry handle so it would be basically a back-up sight but it would free up the front for eventual optics. So should I do it?

There was a long thread over on Barfcom about this with lots of pics of what guys did. It's a much better choice than the LMT cast rear sight.
I'd do it.
The only issue I can see is it not being as secure

I just chopped sanded and re-painted it so once it dries I'll put it on and take pics if anyone wants to see it

I have two with chopped handles, they are very sturdy and give you everything you need.

If you already have a quality carry handle/sight it is certainly more economical than buying another rear BUIS if you want a fixed BUIS.
