    Leupold MkIV CQ/T

I did a brief search, and didn't find a whole lot of info specifically on this optic...

    http://www.leupold.com/tactical/prod...qt-riflescopes

I am looking at putting my first optic on my AR. The gun is built primarily for close range, but the idea of having a variable 1-3x magnification has really peaked my interest. Along with that, is the idea that you have a crisp reticle that is illuminated, rather than a holographic dot.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this optic? I am looking at a brand new one, in my local gun shop for just under $800... seems like a really good price to me, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should consider in that price range?

I can't say that I have any intentions of being able to reach out and hit a target at great distance, but the idea of having a certain amount of magnification really has me looking at this over an Eotech or Aimpoint, at the moment.

Any input is more than appreciated!!

I have one on an M-4 and I love it, although there are a few drawbacks...
    Pros:
    1) It's a Leupold.
    2) VERY accurate.
    3) Rock solid mounting system.
    4) As you stated, 1x3 power magnification... Good for CQB plus enough magnification to engage relatively distant targets.
    5) Etched reticle, so scope can be used even with a dead battery.
    6) Night vision compatible.
    7) Built in rails (I mounted an Aimshot green laser right to the optic, beside working great in that position, it looks bad-ass).
    8) Uses a standard AA battery for power (you can get them almost anywhere... Try finding a CR-123 at your 7-11 store at three in the morning).

    Cons:
    1) Illuminated reticle "washes out" in even faint sunlight (reticle is etched, so illumination isn't needed in sunlight).
    2) Short battery life.
    3) Small objective lens doesn't let in much light.
    4) Long scope body limits field of view for CQB, even with no magnification.
    5) Weight (17+ ounces).
Even with the drawbacks I'm extremely happy with the optic, and would definitely recommend it.

Weight would be another con for some people (17.5 ounces).

this is why i've never invested. they're way too heavy for what they are- i'll never understand what the thinking was on this.

It's way over priced, over weight and too tall for what it does. Also even using both eyes during shooting it's like looking through a straw. There are much better choices out there.

"Cons" has been edited to include weight.

I didn't care for the original scope rail mount, best to invest a LaRue mount for it if you buy one.

What does an Aimpoint + mount , and a 3x magnifier + mount weigh?
