I read somewhere that you can purchase an O-ring from the local hardware store and save about $5 to $8 over the ones from an AR supplier. I've always wondered if there was a difference...especially when everything heats up. Do you know?

From a 'feel' standpoint, the extractors from the Bushmaster and the Rock River seem about the same. A couple of days ago, I was shooting the Bushmaster and the same problem occured with a cold/not cleaned weapon. One shot is all I got from it... same problem. I took the extractor apart and it does not appear to be worn at all.

The tension on my buddy's AR feels the same as mine. I'll scrub the chamber and try it again.

Try this bolt upgrade kit. $4.95 and the right stuff. The stuff at the hardware store probably won't take the heat. G&R are great people too. They also have good deals on BCM uppers.

    Great. I'm ordering them today.

I'll see if I can find someone locally with a chamber gauge to get that checked out too.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

When you do, make sure that you specify a Ned Christiansen chamber checker in 5.56, not a headspace gage. They are available from m-guns.com.

Those rifle projectiles traveling at close to mach 3, will cause additional tissue damage beyond it's diameter you won't see at pistol velocities.

    Up Date Report

FYI, I totally cleaned the Bushmaster today, then took it out to the range and ran 80 of Federal 50gr. JHP's though as fast as I could... Not one hiccup.

Upon examining one of the stuck Wolf 62gr FMJ's, I could see where the extractor ripped off some of the soft steel rim from the case.... further, the primer had backed out of the primer pocket and it was flattened...

I.G., I believe you're correct on the tight chamber... I'll rerun some Wolf ammo through the Rock River (same failure to extract) and see if it has the same case after being fired as the Bushmaster.
