    Unhappy S&W M&P15 Sport

1st post, so I guess a little history is warranted. 65 year old former Jarhead with 2 tours in Nam. Never carried the "little black rifle" even when offered the option because I loved and trusted the M14. I finally allowed the experience and advice of a multi tour sandbox vet sway me. Without asking for specifics I went looking for a name brand and a price. Thought I did good with the S&W M&P and the price was right, BUT, now I'm not so sure. #1 I didn't get the gas block I wanted and the fact that there is no dust cover or forward assist concerns me a little. I'm also reading about 1 in 9 and 1 in 7 twist rifling and this rifle has 1 in 8, don't know if that is good bad or indifferent. The rifle is a sweet shooter with 55gr FMJ ammo and I'm sure it shoots much better than these old eyes will allow. Guess I'm just asking you guys who obviously know bunches more than I do for your opinion or any experiences you may have had with this particular S&W!!! Tried to attach a picture, not sure I was successful.

Nice looking gun. 1:8 twist is ideal for heavier projectiles. Nothing wrong with it at all.

You can always change out your gas block.

The lack of dust cover and F/A is common among "sporter models"
Not crucial, but I prefer them.
