I don't like giving out advice because everybody has their own opinion and some just find their way into a convo and tear posts apart for the fun of it. "Opinions are like assholes; everybody has one and they all stink." I will say that an 18" barrel is fine. If you already have an SBR, use that for one or five matches and you will find out what you want and what direction you want to go with a 'competition rifle'. I wouldn't get rid of the SBR upper, because I think SBR's are freaking awesome. Don't buy anything until you shoot a few matches. You will quickly notice what the 'top' guys are using and if you ask, they'll be happy to tell you why. Trijicon is great. I absolutely love their optics. I use a TR24G with German #4 crosshair because I think the triangle reticle sucks donkey dick. I do not believe they make the mil-dot reticle for the TR24, they do for the TR20, which I have also. The TR24 is preferred over the TR20 because the magnification is more ideal for this game. I use the TR20 for predator hunting. I like the green best, the red isn't bad either, the amber isn't my favorite but its what my TR20 is and it works.
It's light to me. I just put the AAC Blackout for the SPR/M4 suppressor I have 'pending' so it adds a little more weight to the end, but the rifle is still great handling in the field. I think I am going to put a Gisselle S3G trigger in it. I like the one in my comp rifle. I also hunt with a 20 round pmag to save on weight, and the length of the 20 vs 30 is nice in the field. Plus, if I'm still shooting at a dog after 10 rounds, I'm just wasting ammo.
Here's our total after a one day tournament this past winter. Excuse the cow shit and coyote bones, this is our annual coyote pile spot.
