Congrats and great job on your first build. And yes, if you buy cheap you'll buy twice

I really like it a lot. It pretty much has a true 1x with only a little bit of fish eye, not enough to bother me or the three other people who have used it so far. The glass is very clear and the illumination is close enough to daylight bright for me. I also like that it only weighs 16 oz (not including the mount).
I use it for shooting steel out to ~500 yards. Seeing a 2/3 silhouette at 500 isn't too bad with only 4x, especially with how clear the glass is.
I will note that my experience with magnified optics is somewhat limited. The most expensive scope I have experience with is a Nightforce SHV 4-14x50mm which I thought was an ok scope for the money but nothing special.

Thanks for the info. I noticed where Vortex discontinued that model for the Gen II 1-6x. I have seen the 1-4x online new for less than $385 and some places are still trying to sell for $499. I'm finding hard to find exactly what I'm looking for. It's going to be used for hunting and target shooting. I like the dot and magnification feature.
I really enjoyed My Vortex PST 1 - 4 as well. Unfortunately, they came out with the 1-6 right after I bought it and now they're releasing a 1- 8. Have you considered it? I shot the one 1-4 out to 300 hundred yards . I had a little bit of difficulty with it but my eyes are changing as well in my old age! The1-8 isn't much then the 1-4 was when it was new.
