M&P striker channel hole question (pic inside)

I don't think I ever noticed this before. For some reason I thought the hole was supposed to be completely open. If you look at the attached picture, it looks like the hole from the bottom of the slide is partially obstructed with quite possibly the channel insert. As stated I never noticed it. Is this normal?

I believe that the hole should be open.

Actually I do. I'm real anal when it comes to cleaning.

Thanks for the reply Grant. Can anyone take a peek at theirs to check?
I haven't had any problems yet. I fired 282 rds yesterday of various duty ammo and didn't have one malfunction (if this is a new issue). Total round count is just shy of 1K.

I just popped the slides on two of mine, they look the same. Except dirtier.

I wouldn't give it another thought.

Sounds good subzero. I just didn't want this to become a potential life threatening hazard out in the field.

They have an insert, 'striker spring guide'.

I realize that, just like the Glocks. I just wasn't sure if the hole was supposed to be partially blocked like that.
