Osprey Piston under a VTAC Modular Handguard?

Hello, New member here and I am currently building my first AR. I have tried the search function and I have tried googleing it and had no luck. My question is will an Osprey Piston kit fit under a VTAC Modular Handguard? I'm alright with some minor modifications to the handguard.

Any particular reason you're going with a piston gun?

Yeah, It's going to be an SBR. It's never going to be a precision rifle so if it is a little less accurate, I'm ok with that. I have had gas blow back in my face on a few DI guns and I don't really like that (more noticeable on suppressed guns I have shot). I don't like the idea of a rifle shitting where it eats. I know I could buy a gas buster rod and whatnot. I understand DI guns can run as good or better then piston guns and vice versa.

I've installed a few, about 23-24, Osprey piston kits on AR's.

Good product and light but, I'm not sure if it would fit under the VTAC.

    I'd suggest contacting Osprey directly.

It looks like it would fit under the tube BUT, I don't think it will fit through the gas tube holes in the barrel nut w/o reaming.

This would require that you install/align the barrel nut properly then somehow ream out the hole your using to allow the op rod to move freely. I've done this operation on my own personal weapons before but never on a customer weapon. Always been a bit shy about reaming and wrenching on weps I don't own personally.

I'd suggest contacting Osprey directly for a possible alternative to the VTAC. I do know that Midwest has a FF that will work with the Osprey.. but it's kind of heavy/bulky.

    This Osprey? Lawl.

DI Rifles don't "shit where they eat", they clean themselves in all the necessary places. That said, If you absolutely, positively must go with a piston AR, make it an LMT MRP.

As far as gas blowback, there's always this handy sub $10 solution.

I was just going to post this. If your going with a piston system I would highly recommend choosing a different company.

I actually really like the price on that LMT MRP. Will it fit under the VTAC? I'm not dead set on the VTAC handguard but I do like the smaller diameter handguards.

Excuse me.. but I thought this topic was about whether or not the Osprey would fit under the VTAC tube..

Not whether or not it was an uber product or not.

Now granted none of the retrofits I've done have gone onto weapons that are going to be used in a underwater ingress like in the video.

BTW... the LMT MRP is a complete upper system developed by Lewis Machine Tool. Here's a link:

It's pricey but a great product.
