I just called LMT.
Gene says they are staying with straight pins to mount the FSB to the barrel.
I don't think it gets any more "straight from the horses mouth" than that.

I think you may be right on the running out and using what they have in stock. I just checked the one I kept from the prior batch and its not tapered.

BTW whats the benfefot of tapered vs. straight or vice versa?

Tapered pins are:
More expensive (pennies)
a little harder to machine for
easier to install
Sometimes easier to remove and re-install

Straight pins are:
Less expensive (pennies)
Easier to machine for
Usually easier to remove

I took a bunch of pics, and all of them are absolutely worthless to be honest. Going to have to try again tomorrow. I took a bunch with my iphone that looked like junk, so moved to my crap-o 5mp digi cam and they were just as bad. I think the flash was killing me. I'll get pics, I promise. I did take a CLOSE look this time on the ramps, they are definitely cut nice. If thats a dremel job, that guy should have been a surgeon.

The gas key screws are staked, but when I really really look at them and be objective, Im willing to bet you guys will say thats not good enough hehe. Thats the one pic that came out somewhat. I promise I'll get better ones somehow.

I've seen that exact type of staking on RRAs shoot loose, but it takes about 1-2K rounds.

Yep I know. They arent like some of the staking I have seen on here, thats for sure. Ive been checking it every time I clean it, and I think Im at about 700 rounds or so since I bought it. So far so good. I updated first post with a couple pics I took on the iphone last night, they arent much better then the digicam
