About the only upper a conversion kit won't work in is a piston/op-rod type where you cant remove the op-rod.

I have a POF piston upper. To use a conversion kit I first remove the BCG, just like on a DI AR, then I remove the op-rod. Otherwise you wont be able to fully seat the conversion kit in the chamber as the op-rod sticks out slightly further than a gas tube does.

I would guess that a piston AR like the Ruger, where the op-rod is not easily removable, would preclude use of a standard conversion kit.

The very newest version of CMMG's conversion kit has a longer relief cut in the top of the bolt and will work with any piston upper without removing the rod. The older versions have a shorter relief and may cause problems with piston guns unless you remove the rod.

Correct. The CMMG version is compatable with piston set ups like Adams Arms.

    Thanks for the info rman43,

I will pass that on to a few friends that bought (into) Ruger piston ARs and were thinking of modding conversion kits. Good to see that CMMG is, as usual, ahead of the curve.

i can say that the CMMG kit works with the Timney drop in 3lb trigger for those who are interested in that setup....
