22 AR Questions

I'm an avid shotgun shooter and my family owns several, however I was looking to buy a rifle (556 AR) but my family is skiddish about having one in the house but they were thinking about allowing a 22 rifle, I was wondering what is a solid 22 AR because I want to get used to the ergonomics of an AR get the feel for it for when I can finally upgrade

Any suggestions? I was thinking about an S&W MP 22 but I'm open to suggestions.
