The prices for HK are also insane.
Short Bus Question. Is this who you're refering to with CAG & AWG?

Resurrection time. I recently read the write up in Book of the AR15 or whatever it's called written by Eric Poole.
There were alot pictures and various tests performed and it got good reviews. Does anyone have any real trigger time with this thing?
Is it a good viable system? Are there any drawbacks?

No trigger time yet, but I have held a few and done a thorough inspection. Fit and finish are excellent. Handling is nice, and unlike most piston ARs, it is not noticeably nose heavy.
To be honest, a piston AR is on my short list. The past few weeks I have been doing my research on them. Aside from the MR556A1, this is the only piston that has my attention.
I have a 6921 on order, so I may use the 516 to bide my time until it is in my hands.
In fact, I think I will order one up on Monday when I get to work. I'll be sure to provide an ongoing range report if I donor change my mind.
I believe I read the same article. Supposedly IIRC they put 20,000 rounds through it, torture tested it, etc.
I am automatically distrustful of any "gun magazine" article because the manufacturer is obviously going to try to put forward the best face in order to sell more product. Still, if the gun did all they claimed then it speaks well of maybe some of the inherent bugs being worked out of the piston design.
To boot, reading this and other threads the haters seem to a large degree to be basing their hate for the 516 on SIG's previous quality problems.
I'm sufficiently encouraged to watch the 516 and see how opinions develop. I'd really love to see someone wring one out in a tactical carbine match and then post the results here.
Read the same article and was just making the same inquiries. Also has anyone confirmed that this Robert Hirt came from HK? Could this be SIG taking design and quality serious in order to compete for the Army trials? Maybe but I want to see some serious trigger time on the 516 before I get my hopes up.
“Like a sword, a word can wound or kill, but as long as one does not touch the blade, the sword is no more than a smooth piece of steel. Someone who knows the qualities of a sword does not play with it, and someone who knows the nature of words does not play with them.”-- Miyamoto Misashi
Just bought a 516 on the advice of an ex-SF guy. And while I haven't spent much time sending lead down range, only a few hundred rounds due to price of ammo and spending all of the money on the rifle.
Only issue that I have had is it doesn't always like to extract the 1st round out of the mag. But this is probably a problem with the cheap Wolf ammo, overloading the mag(After I took out 1-2 rounds then it started to extract the round out of the mag), tight mag springs or needing to lubricate the action.
A former Army Ranger liked the rifle but thought that it was louder and had more recoil than it should.
So far it seems to be a good weapon if a little front heavy.
I would still love to hear and see some feedback on this upper. The claims made in the magazine were rather exceptional.
