Thanks JTAC, ADCO, and LaRue Tactical......My last AR15 project, finally finished

I recently had Jason at www.jtacsupply.com finish up my last AR15 project.

I wanted something that I could use in our local monthly rifle matches where stages are set up with paper and steel targets at unknown distances from 1 yard out to 450 yards. And something that could be used in 3 gun competition.

I started this project back in early May and due to some problems with Rock River Arms, I got the lower receiver back a couple weeks ago.

This gun is light and very well balanced and "swings" well.

With the rifle length gas system and the MSTN QC comp the felt recoil and muzzle flip are next to nothing. In a the prone position using the magazine as a mono-pod, I don't loose my sight picture at 450 yards when shooting steel gongs with the Leupold MR/T M2 on 5x.

Communications with Jason were great and turn around was fast. Jason was more than helpful with this project (answering questions, etc). Thanks again Brother!!!

I like seeing your work orders come through the shop--a good photo thread is always soon to follow and I know the guns just don't sit in the safe!

Hi Jeff, nice new weapon build! I'm interested in your PRI forend. Did you remove the rails off of a standard GenIII, or is it the Competition model with aluminum barrel nut?

Also, what problems were you experiencing with RRA?

    THX/ B safe,

    Kisara,

How's it going, Brother? The PRI is a Gen III with the rails that I didn't need removed. I went with this model due to the heat shield and from some advise from local shooter who have either owned or shot both. From the intel I gathered, the Gen III was cooler after long courses of fire during the summer months (most years it's 100 to 110 degrees from mid May to mid Sept).

The problem I had with RRA was the pistol grip screw hole in the lower receiver was out of spec. It was either drilled at the wrong angle or drilled to the rear of where it should have been drilled. Thus leaving a gap between the front of the pistol grip and the receiver directly behind the trigger.

RRA said there wasn't a problem and tried blaming it on the after market grips I was using (Tango Down, Magpul MIAD, ERGO, and others). I then explained to them that I had taken several different pistol grips off of several different lowers (all Tango Down and Magpul MIAD pistol grips from another RRA, several Colts, Bushmaster, and Stag Arms) and tried them on this lower and they all exhibited the same gap.

I then took the two MIAD's that I sent to RRA with this lower and tried them on my other guns. The MIAD's fit perfectly on every other lower that I tried them on. Thus I knew it wasn't the grip, but it was this receiver that was out of spec.

RRA refused to do anything. They gave me every excuse from the grips were out of spec to my other 10 AR's were all out of spec.

I found a rubber ERGO grip that fit the gun and left it on there. The standard (non-rubber) ERGO grip had the same gap as the Tango Down and MIAD, but the rubber ERGO fit perfectly.

I will NEVER purchase or recommend RRA again. I sent the gun in twice. Their customer service sucks. Kind of reminds me of their out of spec upper receiver rails from a few years ago.......instead of admitting fault they told everyone that the gov't was coming out with a new rail spec and they were the only company that had released a rail to the new spec.

    Take care and stay safe,
    Jeff
