New York Gun Shop List w/ Reviews,

    Hey everyone.

I would like to get a New York Gun Shop list going that includes if the shop is black gun friendly, what the staff is like, and if there are accessories for assault rifles on hand and available. Please list the name, location (including county), and give a quick review of the shops contents and staff.

I'll start with those few stores I know about:

    Collector's Guns and Ammo
Hopewell Junction , Dutchess County, Route 82
    Review:

This store is the best I have found in regards to their collection of ban state friendly black rifles. I bought my AK from these guys, and purchased my Eotech as well. They have the best bulk ammo prices I have found in the lower hudson valley but be wary I have purchased some really crap military bulk here. If you are in the market for an Eotech this guy has great prices, cheaper then anything I've seen online.

My biggest complaints about this store is that it's dirty as all hell, and while I have made major purchases there the employees are major bubbas. Several things that have been talked about in the "stupidest things ever heard in a gun shop" thread could be attributed to this shops employees and typical customers.

I will write up a couple of more reviews in the coming days. Please add to this, I would love to know about gun shops I can drive to and check out. If your a NYer and know about a sweet store on the boarder that you like to go to, let us know about that too.

I live in the Rochester area and do most if not all my bussiness with.

Avon Gun and Hunting supply in Avon NY
The owner is retired USCG and a big NRA promoter he is AR frendly and very well versed all employes are vets. Prices are negotable. Jim, Tim and John

TOP NOTCH Firearms sale in Canandaigua NY
This guy is in local Law Enforcement and runs his bussiness on the side. Hell of a nice guy and his shop is devoted to ARs seams to know his shit.

The LANO GROUP in Honeoye NY
500 yard range and very AR frendly deals with some volume sales and show room is well stocked and very frendly. Ask for Chris

    Victor PRO gun Victor NY
These guys are hit and miss prices are very high, the shop has a great selection of hunting/AR/Battle rifles and all sorts of pistols. They are help full and easy to deal with some minor gun smithing services.

Beikirchs Ammo Corp East Rochester NY, next to Sentry safe co
Hugh shop! AMMO AMMO AMMO great prices MIL/LE discounts, they sell everything. Staff is good if you know who to talk to a few guys are boobs. I get all my bulk and reloading supplys there. I have never bought a weapon here but they have it all not all out to see. They have LMT, Sako TRGS and started selling hand guns ,but the pistol guy is a "know it all". Ask for Bod, Jim or Hans

I have heard rumor of another shop opening up in Webster devoted to ARs but there is no hours yet. There are other shops around but these shops in general can talk the talk and walk the walk in regard to good info there is no BS involved when shoping here. If you dont have a clue what your talking about they will flat out tell you.

Ruger's Custom Guns, Kingston NY Ulster County,
This is a small custom shop that supplies a lot of the local law enforcement. The owner says he is a three gunner, he is extremely over priced, and there is a reason why all the LE in the area have DPMS, and it is this shop. But, if you are LE and your looking for things like magazines, flashhiders, and so on, this place is for you.

    Thruway Market Wallkill NY,
This place is a hunting store predominately. They have a gun smith that specializes in hunting, and they have a huge selection. They aren't completely anti black rifle, they have some of the better quality brands I have seen in NY, including LMT. But they aren't super educated about black rifles, and have no accessories. Good ammo prices on bulk stuff.

Dave's Shooting Sports Goshen NY, Orange County
The only indoor range, or pay to play range I can find in Hudson Valley area. I like the workers, especially the young 14-15 year old kid that is super excited to have his first "job" and have it be so "cool". The range is nice, but the majority of ass hats I have seen in NY have been on the firing line at this place. But, I did have one of the range officers refuse to let two guys shoot another hour, because they made a comment about me being a "dressed too nice NYC boy", while they held a Keltec or some shit. The range officer cabashed they're attitude right there and allowed me to shoot in peace (and to out shoot them as well). The prices are a bit steep for my liking, especially the ammo. Bring your own ammo, and take a magnet to the bullet first to make sure it isn't steel core. If you don't you'll get had on ammo prices. They have a selection of guns, but I wouldn't buy from them. Their range rules are a bit prohibitive, but being the only range I can find in NY that caters to the public I understand why.

Gander Mnt. in Kingston NY Kingston NY, Ulster County,
This place is surprisingly pretty cool. They have a couple of employees that love assault weapons, and their gun smith is a black rifle specialist, and former 3gunner. The gun smith is dedicated to getting more and more accessories for m4 style rifles, and can answer most questions you throw at him. The kicker though is that your paying corporate prices for everything. Their ammo prices are atrocious. You will however find things like MI sling mounts, magpul followers, rails, triggers, ext.

I have two more I will write up later. Anyone else want to contribute? I would love to turn this thread into a resource for those of us trying to enjoy the sport in a non friendly state. I am also really really interested in any info regarding ranges.

Ranges I know of in the western part of the state are mostley rod and gun types.

The Lano Group in Honeoye has 500 yards its not public and depending on who you are you may have to pay but its 500 yards.

There is another range in Naples NY owned by a guy named Bill, also 500 yards with 3 ranges devoted to steel plates. I have his phone number and will PM it to who ever would like it. He caters to reserve units all others have to pay.

I know of a 1k range on the east side of SU can rember the name.
Their is also a public range around watertown that is 1k.

Rochester Brooks gun club has 200 yards in Rush NY, private club and some members tend to think they run the place. 7 pistol bays.

Springwater Rod and Gun has 200 yards and does F class.

I live up by Lake George, but I used to work in Avon. The Avon Gun Shop was a favorite hangout, and I picked up quite a few firearms and optics from them. A1 bunch, they are!

Bak up here where I grew up and now reside, there are a few favorites:

Zack's Sports in Round Lake. i just picked up a nice Rem 700 Tactical from them for a gift to a Vet. They gave me a nice discount!

McGregor's Gun Shop in Corinth - very nice family business. The first transactionn I had with him was when I needed a crush washer BADLY, called him and he left a few of them for me in his mailbox on his day off, and I replaced it with a ten-spot. They'll have my business.

Nemecs in Warrensburg, another family business. nice folks, but sadly recently lost their father/owner to cancer. They get some nice used guns in regularly.

Hawk's Corners in Hartford. Charlie has been around forever. My father bought me my first gun - an Ithaca Featherlight 16 - from him when I turned 12 (in 1974). I still have it and it's practically an extension of my left arm!

And Al Petteys in Fort Ann, from whom I got my first black gun (a Stag 2T).

Oh.....I have my own range(s). One by the house is 50yds, and another in a field is 200, another down in the valley is 500.

    Citizen's Armory
    Arlington NY
Route 44 just East of Poughkeepsie

I've been to this place twice. The second time was to just see if what I had seen was actually for real. It was...

This store has the potential to be pretty cool, but it stops just about there. It use to be a place called Gun Depot, and now its got this pretty cheesy interior that looks like it's from a Rambo movie. They seem to be focusing on dealing only Sig 5.56 models, and they had two Sig DMR's for like 1600. If your looking for an AK may not be a bad place to stop by, but all their AR's were Crap and priced according to typical gun store crap. Stags at over 1000? No accessories at all which is really why I went back to see if they had gotten their shit together since they opened.

So why am I not impressed, and why do I think we should all stay away despite this honest review?

    1. Always full of people, and at one point some young shaved headed kid was commenting on an AK behind the counter with an older guy. Hands the gun to the older guy, then says: "Don't rack the slide if you know what i mean." They both laugh, older guy who obviously doesn't know the younger dude molests the gun a bit, and I step out the door. No shit, this really happened.

    2. The logo for this store is, how should I put it, very German circa the 30's. All the kids behind the counter seem to have similar hair styles as well if you know what I mean. It's pretty blatant what is going on.

Anyway Bubba central with a veneer of a professional shop.

    Civil Armory

    Mac5.56,

I believe the correct name of the shop you mentioned above is Civil Armory. It is located on Rt44 at the Poughkeepsie / Pleasant Valley border.

I have been there a few times myself , not in the past 4 or 5 months though , and was not impressed either.

I do agree that for price and selection Collector in Hopewell Junction is the best we have around this area.

Thanks for the correction. Isn't there a shop located on the side of a butcher up that road a little bit too???

Don't remember the name but I did like the woman I spoke with behind the counter, she was pretty awesome.
