Some MRP barrel updates. A couple posts back I posted that I had sent one of my 16" CL barrels to Marvin Pitts to get turned down from .75" to .68" for weight reduction. I found that the weight reduction wasn't that great. Well, I got a wild hair and decided to send my 16" SS 5-r barrel to him to have it dimpled and black coated. Now I have in my possession a 16" CL bbl, a 16" CL bbl turned down to .68", and a 16" SS bbl that's been dimpled. They all share the same muzzle device installed so they are a same same comparison.
What's interesting is that the dimpling was about a 3oz weight reduction, as was the .07" diameter reduction. However, the dimpled barrel should retain its original rigidity. I'll be curious to see how the SS barrel groups now compared to before, and how well it does as it gets hot......and gets shot suppressed.
Pics speak for themselves.
