SR15 Carbine Mod 1 vs Carbine SBR

I know they are both sweet and very similar.

SBR has mid contour ball dimpled 14.5" barrel
Mod 1 has thin profile 16" barrel

Do they have the exact same gas system?

The 14.5 weights slightl more which I am assuming is because the heavier barrel profile.

    Any other differances?
I would just pin the 14.5 at this point but lets not get into that for now.
Is ther a favorite from the KAC crowd?

    They are obviously very similar.

Which was has a slight edge in awesomeness?
    Thanks

I would just pick a MD....(maybe a MAMS) and pin it.

I can't speak to the SBR, but the 16 inch gun is crazy, crazy smooth.

Same gas system length. Only difference is the barrel. E-man930 has one and can probably give you more insight into the differences between it and the Mod1. The carbine is definitely more unique due to the ball milled barrel.

14.5" Carbine is heavier, shoots about the same. I would say the recoil impulse of the 14.5" is just a hair "softer-quicker" feeling than the 16" version. I like mine because the barrel profile does aid accuracy, and for me it fills a void in between my bang-a-bullet 11.5" SBR and my 16" LMT 7.62 MWSE. I was able to get .82 MOA out of the 14.5" Carbine before the barrel started heating up. Hope this helps...

Big deciding factor for me was price.....Mod1 was 1950 and the 14.5 was 1700-1875. So a little bit more for a KAC ambi lower is worth the stretch.....

I just saw a used KAC lower sell on Gunbroker for over 1100.

With all that being said, I have 3 SR15's and will buy every damn thing these guys make, so I just haven't gotten around to buying the KAC 11.5 Gen 2 and 3 and the 14.5....

I have two KAC 14.5 uppers and another complete SR-15 carbine on the way (as well as a KAC 11.5 SBR CQB).

I used to have sr-15 16" rifles, but I sold them earlier this year after getting my first KAC 14.5 upper. i had to fund all to fund those listed above.

As far as Im concerned the KAC 14.5 carbine is just about the best factory arrangement being offered in the 5.56 market.

I own a couple of 16" SR15's and have a few hundred rounds through the 14.5 SR15 with a MAMS and with a SF MB556. If you like a little more weight up front, then the 14.5 is pretty hard to beat. It's the flattest shooting carbine I've every personally shot.

The 16" just feels a little bit lighter at the muzzle but, shoots just as smooth. Obviously can't go wrong with either so, the decision is whether or not you want to pin a FH/MB on the 14.5, wait through the NFA process if you can even find a factory 14.5" carbine, or grab a 16" that would probably be more readily available.

I do plan on eventually adding one to my collection but, that would be awhile since I already have (2) 14.5's that I've been running and it would really just be redundant to add another at this time.
