    Flash Hiders vs Muzzle Break

i have heard of flash hider/muzzle brake combos but are all flash suppressors the same as muzzle brakes? do they hide the muzzle flash and reduce recoil? for example:the DPMS Flash Hider Panther

    Short answer is no.

Muzzle brakes redirect the gases coming out the the barrel to reduce recoil. Muzzle brakes that redirect gases to achieve a specific effect (like reducing muzzle rise) are sometimes called compensators.

Flash suppressors attempt to cool unburnt combustion gases as they exit the barrel. The methods of doing it vary quite a bit.

Some devices are designed to achieve both effects, some are either or. There are also muzzle boosters on some machine guns to make their gas system operate properly and blank firing adapters (BFAs) are technically muzzle boosters.
