    DPMS 308???

How are these rifles in terms of reliability? Durability?

I was going to get a FAL to turn into a marksman rifle, but I saw the DPMS and thought it would be more comfortable.

But I read many times that DPMS rifles aren't really the greatest manufacturers.

Lower production number, more attention during builds.

A comparatively smaller number of them on the market produces less negative feedback than the 5.56mm.

I'd also speculate that the .308s aren't being used with the individual intensity and volume that the 5.56s are. Most sold at a local vendor are going to target/match shooters and hunters.

The DPMS .308s are pretty darn nice (I plan to get one).
I speculate that probably much more of the parts of .308 guns are made in-house or are farmed out to better machine shops than the .223 guns. The .308s also use mags that are compatible with the KAC SR25 rifles. The .308s have carrier keys that are staked correctly unlike DPMS .223 guns but neither has staked castle nuts on their stocks (but that's easily fixed).

Well then, I think the DPMS is what I'll be getting!

Another question, do DPMS 308 mags drop free?

I have a friend that owns a "black gun" gun store. He advises that the DPMS 308's need a little attention paid to them but once setup, run well. He advised that there is minimal finishing, for instance metal shavings in the buffer tube and fire control group. He advises to disassemble, inspect, and clean thoroughly and then they're pretty good.

If buying, I would opt for the Armalite vs. the DPMS.

I don't know about that. I've heard about reliability problems with the AR10.

Besides, I can get DPMS mags much cheaper from 44mag.com

I saw on GB 9 mags for $21 each! That's a big deal to me.

When I was buying an AK I opted for the 7.62 WASR because I knew I could get mags for 10-15 dollars each. The 223 WASR3 I was originally going for had mags for 25-30 dollars each so I said forget it.

to me theres no such thing as a precision fal.... go with a DPMS... get a quality barrel and have a quality gunsmith install the gas system/barrel... then lube the snot out of the bolt (just like an AR15)... go with M4 feedramps if you can do it... and presto... a accurate, reliable AR that shoots 308
