    Who builds AK's?

I have a bunch of AK parts I have collected over the years. I thought I might put this all together myself but I think it would be best if I had it done by an AK expert. This will be a custom build with a variety of parts in a fairly non-standard configuration. Any recommendations of where to send my box of parts to?

I would recomend Jim Fuller of Rifle Dynamics.

Get a saiga, have someone convert it and slap the parts on you want. That way you have a factory hammer forged barrel and good receiver from the get-go.

    I guess that would help.

Imagine in your mind an STG-2000-C made with a better parts set. I like the form factor. I am not worried about the short sight radius because I will be running a Trijicon RMR. Basically, it is a Nodak Spud Yugo receiver with a mix of Euro parts. For a bbl I was looking at one of the new Green Mountain barrels. These are chrome lined. Power Custom for the FCG, an ACE folding stock, and an Ultimak gas tube. I think I should be 992r compliant. I want full grey (zinc?) phosphate at a minimum and possibly another coating over this (moly?).

I am looking for a good 'grab-it-and-go' rifle that will be good for 20k+ round count. I think it would outlive the service life of the original owner.

I like Krebs engineering background and he really seems to understand the AK. However, the web site is not very user friendly. Are you suppose to call them first? Piece of History Firearms has the best site (better prices?) and a nice al carte ordering system.

After a little R&D on the first rifle I think I would want three of these.

I have been completely unimpressed by the barrels made here in the US by Green Mountain. Now, admittedly, the ones I have experience with have been on the bargain basement Century builds, but they tend to have tight, non spec chambers, and have been made out of much softer steel than any of the foreign military barrels.

I'd also wave off of the Red Star Arms adjustable fire control group for a serious use rifle. There have been numbers of credible reports of them doubling, tripling, etc. under even moderate use. I'd personally go with a non adjustable system like the Tapco G2 or the K-Var fcg.

It's going to be really hard to beat a Bulgarian or Russian cold hammer forged hard chrome lined barrel for durability.

If you still want to build up what your envisioning, and you are going to use those parts, then I'd probably give Krebs a call, he has some of the most experience doing non traditional AK builds.

    Thanks for the info.

Any idea if these bbls require a 45 degree gas block?

If not, can you recommend a 7.62 bbl with 14x1mm threaded muzzle that takes a 90 degree gas block?
