    Hornady .223 Steel

Anyone shoot the Hornady 223 75 Gr BTHP Steel Case Ammunition - 9760EL for practice?

How good is it? I read some info here on one without the "EL" suffix - seemed fine, but what has been the experience? Beyond practice, would this be a good "defense round"? Thanks.

I have shot around 1500 rounds of it. Accuracy seems to be the same as with brass cased rounds that use the Hornady 75GR BTHP bullet. Its the same bullet as the brass cased rounds.

Only thing I don't like is the trajectory sucks. At 500 yards I had over 4 mils of elevation. Mk262 shoots to 2.8 mils for me.

I've shot about 500 rounds of it. Functions well in my SR15 and I have gotten some of my best groups with it.

I have have over 2200 rounds of it and the 55gr. through my SBR. I highly recommend it as training and practice ammo.

Scottsdale Gun Club had it in stock. Ammunitiontogo has the 55gr. in stock and it is more than adequate for plinking and training.

What are the advantages of the 75gr over SS109 - thanks.

75 grain would offer similar POI in practice ammo to your duty ammo if you used 75 grain.

There is no advantage to ss109 that I can think off... unless you get some real M855. The advantage there is that you're getting robust mil ammo.

More accurate. I believe the mil acceptance accuracy for M855 is 4MOA. Most quality 75/77 grain OTM bullets are capable of sub MOA accuracy. M855 was designed to penetrate body russian body armor not shoot small groups.

Doesn't help that they still cant get the steel core in the bullet without it being off center.
