constant misfire

I'm having a problem with my new sig516. After exhausting a full mag, the bolt locks back as it should. Problem is, I insert a new mag, release the bolt and "click" misfire. I do not know what is causing this accept i can see that the bolt is not fully closed. It appears to be about 1/8 inch from closing completely. This is causing the misfire. When I pull the charging handle to insert first round this does not happen??? Any suggestions or people having this problem?

Out of curiousity are you running it dry because it is a piston system? If so, then you need to apply some lube. I would also look for any unusual rub marks or obstructions in the chamber area. I assume that the magazines seat with no issues?

I have ZERO knowledge of the 516 system so this is just a guess. Also what about the piston? I assume that it hits the BCG at some point? Any issues there?

Also, this is not a "misfire" situation. From what you are saying the bolt is failing to go into battery.

Well, the weapon is new. I have put 400 rounds through it and this has happened pretty regular. Mags seat fine and are snug, the weapon was well lubed as it was new, and no unusual rub marks that I can see. The chamber and bolt still look very clean so I have not cleaned it yet. Maybe its a simple issue of lubing? I have not done that yet. I will clean it any way and re lube all the parts and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

Here's what I would do. Strip the weapon down and clean the weapon (the initial lube on a weapon is usually a preservative) and then make sure that everything looks right. Consult the manual if necessary.

Then apply some proper lube to the weapon. If you are still having issues, then consult with SIG. After reading the write up about the 516 in a recent gun mag, you would think that it would be able to walk on water.

I'm using pmc x-tac 62grn ammo and pmags. I'm thinking your right about the lube. I just took out the bcg and its not "dry" but I'm sure it could use some lube. I do not see any unusual wear marks. And is there any difference in where the bolt locks back whether I use the charging handle to lock it back or when it locks out of battery after firing through a mag?

Your post has me confused. In any case unless there is some type of obstruction or you are riding the bolt forward by not allowing it to slam into battery then something isn't right.

If it persists after you do the above, then I would call SIG.

When you release the bolt, are you using the bolt release, or the charging handle?
