    Freeing up linked 7.62 ammo

Don't know where exactly to post this...

I bought a bunch of surplus linked 7.62x51 linked ammo to feed my 17S. What's the most efficient and easy way to free up that ammo from links?

Was this some Hirtenberger? If it is, watch this.

Not sure if all linked ammo is the same, hope it helps.

Thanks. I used a needle-nose pliers yesterday with some success, but that video method seems faster.
It was Pakistani ball ammo, but links appear to be the same.

The "method" shown in the video is how we always did it. If you have very much, though, you'll want to wear gloves.

Any concerns with setting the bullet back when using that method? Or are they crimped enough to not be worried? I've got three boxes of linked stuff that I haven't already de-linked.

The other two, I used two hands and a plastic (old hair brush) stick to push them out the front of the link while watching TV with the wife. Seemed to work ok, but gloves are a necessity.

This is how I would do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF_cA18GA7I

All kidding aside, the AIM video shown is probably the "best" way to do it. Tedious of course. I've done a little in my life but not a whole ton.

We didn't measure any after we delinked them, but we shot them without any issues. I'm led to believe that if the cartridges can take the abuse of being fed through a machine gun then they can take the minimum force necessary to delink them.

My only advice would be to wear some gloves! Once the link pops off the rim you will likely smash your finger at least 5 times. My fingers were a little raw after 200 rounds. Good luck

From an old FALFiles.com thread. I used a variation of this (nails on a board) and a dowel rod to push them out.

I hope the Paki 7.62 is worth it.

300 rounds per hour just isn't fast enough. Make an "Oklahoma" delinker:

Lay a 4 round strip of linked ammo on a piece of 2x6 and pound a nail in between each round. Get a short (18 inches) piece of 1x2 and insert 4 drywall screws in the thin side so that the head of each drywall screw sticks out 1 inch and contacts the base of each of the 4 rounds. Use the 1x2 to push all 4 rounds forward out of the links simultaneously. Put another 4 round strip on and repeat. You can shuck about 1000 rounds in 20 minutes with this tool and your fingers won't hurt afterwards.

Sorry I didn't take a picture of this, but it is pretty simple.
