About 20 years ago I set up a civy legal version of what had been a team leader weapon at work.

A CAR-15 with an M203.



I used a commercial SA carbine, with a Cobray 37mm launcher. Replicate what you have at work is the same reason I bought a 92FS after we traded our .45s in. Then when you are having fun at the range, you are training with what you have. I never had 203 CL handguards for it, I just used the top of regular handguards.

I went through the dozen or so flares I got for it, got bored after a while, took it off, and that carbine has tolerated every crazy configuration I have played with since. The launcher just sat in the safe.

With enough flat top ARs to have plenty of other set ups, I was running it some recently in its original slick set up for old times sake.

By chance I found a deal on CL 203 HGs with a leaf site I could not pass up. Nostalgia took over, and I set it back up.


Now for the armorer question. Does a standard M4 type side sling swivel fit? I cannot remember off the top of my head, was there a special side sling swivel I need to find? Thank you for any information.



And yep, I am already planning on a trust to get a SF suppressor, so I just may have to DD stamp this so I can use something other than flares with it.

I had to file down an recoat a side sling swivel to fit under an a1 fsb. Not sure if I sacrificed much structural integrity, but it fit.

I recall a metal loop that went through the FSB for rifles. I was USMC in the 90s, so no carbines for us.

I can speak to the fact that as of December of 1970 there was no side swivel on the weapon, never touched one after that.

I wouldnt DD the Cobray. Its to cheaply made and would not hold up to anything more than Flares. Bates and Dittus makes an under barrel 37mm but at $430 plus $200tax your just about to the half way point of LMT M203.

Yup me too. It was a triangular shaped attachment that went through the FSB kinda like a split ring key ring.

That looks to me like a .750" barrel, so the current M4 side sling adapter will work since it's designed for the M4/M16A2.

There was an earlier version that had a two sided locking piece, one for .625" barrels (M16/M16A1) and the other for .750" barrels (M4/M16A2)

So, if DD'd it will not handle the basic 12 gauge round inserts, 37mm flechette rounds, etc.? It was the only option I remember being available back then. Too bad.
