I have a STI Ranger II which I bought used. After a few tweaks it seems to work great with MetalForm 9 round mags from Brownells, although I never put more than 100 rounds at a time through it. For me, it's more of a curiosity piece since my main platform is Glock. I am seriously considering selling it, as I didn't warm up to it that much, and I prefer modern polymer pistols in general.

STI makes a pretty good 1911. It seems we all either go the polymer route or the traditional 1911 route:-)

I've always thought of the Colt, Wilson, and Star offerings as the ''end all be all'' in 9x19mm for 1911s.
Especially after firing a compact Star 9x19mm 1911.

1911's are for 45 ACP.
G17's are for 9mm.
A 9mm 1911 is blasphemy and you will burn in hell. JMB designed the HI-Power so girl's and wimpy European men could have a side arm.
I'll spend half the money on a Springfield and get twice the gun as a Kimber. You spend all that coin on a Kimber and get a plastic back strap,WOW.

There are merits to a 9x19mm 1911, just like there are merits to being a purist.
