    Vltor SBR

Was in my LGS today and ran across a Vltor M4K 12.4 w/ VIS-1 & VST, they want 1899 for it. I don't own an SBR currently but have been wanting another rifle for a while now. I've been eyeing Noveskes and KAC but I saw this and it caught my interest. However I don't know much about the quality if the rifles Vltor puts out. I'm not sure I'm willing to take the tax stamp plunge for this rifle or not. I'd like some advice/opinions. Thanks ahead of time, here's the link from the Vltor website for the rifle in question:http://www.vltorstore.com/products/1...1-and-VST.html

Noveske uses the Vltor uppers, that says something about their quality. Besides once you have the registered lower you can swap out for a better upper if you want.

I'd get it, then replace the VLTOR GB/FS, with a KAC unit.

I don't know many people with VLTOR rifles, but if you own a Noveske, it has VLTOR parts in it (Upper). Also it appears that VLTOR, Noveske, and BCM are in bed together on the Gunfighter charging handles as well.

Looks good but I passed it up, no idea where I'll be in 6 months time so NFA is just not a good option for me right now. Thanks for the tips.

    I can relate.

It is difficult to be an active NFA owner when you are subject to regular PCS moves to places (OCONUS or restricted states) where you can't even take such things. I was able to make it work for a while using my Home of Record, but that is probably a sketchy approach under current law, and you still don't have ready access to your hardware.

I would be pretty confident in VLTOR product, but would probably avoid going the NFA route until you have a bit more control over your fate. That could be a few years ... one of those "associated costs" of active service, unfortunately.

    Appreciate you just the same.

The best way to deal with these situations is to separate the uppers and lowers and take the lower with you. Once you remove the upper its just a regular lower and you can put a 16" on there and be good.
