"What would a $2,000 Geissele Super Duty do that a $500 PSA door buster on Black Friday couldn't do?" - Stopsign32v
I took a few pistols to the range the other day, including one that shoots 9X18 Makarov.
In order to be able to ID my spent brass, I'd shot the ammo with a light coat of paint.
Well, when I went to check in, the guy asked me what I was shooting (22LR, .45ACP, and Mak); asked to see the Makarov ammo, so he could check it w/ a magnet. He thought someone had gone crazy with the sealant on the primers when he saw 'em...
Made it a lot easier to ID my spent brass after shooting, though. Didn't see any signs of paint left inside the gun (I figured it was designed for a steady diet of lacquered steel, so WTF).
Oh, and I agree with the previous poster's comment about kids w/ brooms on the firing line...

I take automotive lacquer paint and thin it out with lacquer thinner and dip mine.
It might take a little longer but it sure looks good when I am done and I like that I can very quickly identify what I am grabbing.
