What's wrong with the plus pk

•PLUS PACKAGE: Includes individual Magnetic Particle (MP) & High Pressure (HP) testing of the bolt and barrel & upgraded barrel steel (4150 barrel steel chrome lined) •1:7 twist rifling •M4 feed ramps •M-16 bolt carrier •Heavy buffer assembly •One extra 30 rnd. USGI magazine (2 total)
    Nothing is wrong with it.

It merely brings it up to the standard features of a "mil-spec" rifle, e.g. Colt, BCM.

Gee, Walmart had 6920s for $849 over Father's Day.

I would pay another hundred for Colt's quality over Stag, much less $29. That said, I bought a 6920 SOCOM for $997 on the same sale.

I have Stags with the plus packages and Colts. We've run the hell out of all of them. No problems with any of them.

I feel that's a lot of bang for the buck.

Let me explain it like this, why buy something that is supposed to be as good as a Colt when for not a lot more money you could get the Colt. Colt is THE standard, the one that everything else is compared to. Why buy something that "might" meet the standard when you can buy the standard. Stags are known as a second tier gun. All the ones that are commonly recommended here are known as top tier guns. If you are happy with your Stag and it does all you ask of it then I think that is fantastic, but it doesn't make it a top tier gun. A Vette will never be a Ferrari and a Mustang will never be a Porsche and Stag has a long way to go to be considered top tier among hard users.

By the way I don't think that calling something what it is is hating on it. At the end of the day the only person who needs to be happy with what you have is you.

I bet you'd start driving the Porsche if your 15 year old Ford Escort broke down on every trip to the grocery store.

You're kind of confusing, so I hope I got the analogy right.

If I'm off base here please let me know.

    1. What folks perceive as 'hate' for Stag Arms from this forum isn't hate at all. The reality is that a significant sample set of Stag Arms AR15's haven't really been proven reliable/dependable under hard use for any significant period of time. There's no reason to avoid them if one is looking for an AR15 for range use, plinking, hunting, etc. A stoppage will not place the shooter at risk for these activities. It would be I'll advised, however, to rely upon a Stag Arms AR15 as a primary defense weapon until they have been proven to be reliable/durable/dependable under hard use. Until then they will be considered tier 2 AR's. Decide how you will use the weapon and buy accordingly. Don't take risks over a few $$.

    2. If one is new to the platform don't make too many decisions regarding features. The basic M16 and M4 platform has been keeping American warfighters alive and fighting in combat for decades. It works and it's an excellent place to start.. The pictures one may view of weapons that forum members have built and/or modified may move the newcomers focus off of what's important NOW: choose a quality, proven carbine that fits the buyers intended use now (and any future intended application). After some time shooting the weapon one may decide that some ergonomic changes one may wish to make (pistol grip angle & size, handguard length, required hardware and/or rail space, BUIS and optics) once use/application is further defined, etc. One should not let pictures and hype drive ones decisions.

    3. This forum has more than a few knowledgeable people (understatement). A good bit of that knowledge is available by using the forum's search function. This not the 'casual shooter' crowd. There are armorers, LEO's, active servicemen, trainers, and vets here and. They're not going to recommend (or validate one's intention to purchase) a weapon that they themselves would not rely upon to defend themselves and their loved ones.

Most of the Stag carbines and rifles I have seen are mediocre at best. I am pretty sure I have posted some of the observations as has Grant. We even have a dedicated thread to Stag and a few others.
