Glock Extractor Issues Gen 4 - Gen 3

I absolutely agree that a quality handgun should be able to handle any shit FMJ and even steel case to a point...I think that having problems with duty ammo, which far exceeds the quality of training ammo makes this a whole different animal. I will be honest and say that I have sold a handful of pistols because they couldn't reliably cycle training ammo, yet ran duty ammo flawlessly...including my gen 3 19 and my latest attempt to move away from glock with a USP 9 that had the most erratic ejection ever, even with higher quality training ammo 124gr and even +p.

Jerry's case of experiencing reliability and extraction issues with quality ammo (gold dot & Winchester nato) surprises me, is this common? The issues that I have had with any Glock that I have seen in person has only been with cheaper ammo such as WWB, Federal champion, Rem UMC, etc. I've never had one of mine have issues with higher grain/FPS/quality FMJ ammo, and especially never with duty quality ammo like gold dot. Have many other people had this experience? That is a HUGE issue...compared to only having problems with non-duty ammo.

Plumber237 - my first Gen4 G19 would not run with our issued 147 gr JHP subsonic (but it's VERY subsonic - a very anemic load). The next four, all of which had a variety of failures, BTF issues, and erratic ejection, all did so with NATO ball.

It's a .mil load roughly equivalent to Federal's old 9MS

The only problem I ever had with my dept issue Glock 22 gen 3 was when we attached the Surefire X300 lights to the rail. About 75% of the dept had fte or stovepipe issues. After a bunch of attempted fixes that didn't solve the problem, we upgraded to the gen 4 before they were even available to the general public. Problems fixed...

I had the same issue with my personally owned G23. Sold the old one off and purchased a gen 4 G23, again, problem solved. I ain't no limp wrister...lol

i am now up 4750 rds. thru my latest issue gen3. 19. i have found the the more i shoot it the extraction has become more consistent. in the first couple of thousand rounds i would get a few BTF haven't had one in the last 2500 rds or so. is it possible that it take alittle longer for the later gen 3-4 to break in, (i don't know i'm just wondering out loud). i've shot a bunch of PMC ball which is pretty lite loaded but she kicked the empties out with no issues.

Shot 1st 100 rounds out of my brand new Gen 3 G17 and at least 1/2 the rounds hit me in the face or brim of my hat. I would say the majority of the what I shot came out between 4:30 and 6 o clock. I was shooting 115 gr Aquila FMJ. I don't know how hot or mild this load is btw. The serial# starts with TDY also

I do not post much- at all really, but thought I may be able to contribute to this thread. Using cheap WWB ammo I experienced BTF issues in rounds 8,33,40 of a brand new Gen 4 17. I took it to Glock this week to install night sights, told them of the issue.

They replaced the ejector, RSA, extractor and extractor spring and told me my issue was resolved. They did not tell me they did not find an issue, but rather that it was resolved. I will be shooting again this Friday to test it out.
