    700 SPS vs 700 LTR?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get my first longer range tactical rifle. A while ago I had been looking into a Remington 700 LTR. But now it looks like the 700 SPS has replaced it in the remington catalog. I e-mailed my LGS and they have an SPS for $629 and an LTR for $1029. I am wondering why the huge difference in price? Is the LTR that much better to warrant the huge difference?

It can't just be the stock, Thats $400 difference. Is the LTR better, better barrel maybe? I know the LTR Barrel is fluted from pictures.

$300 of it would be the stock... at least on a retail level.

Better barrel is hard to say. You could get a laser beam or a clunker out of any REM 700 model.

Orkan's army was ringing this steel at 1000 on Saturday. We're getting better every week.

Outstanding. I'm glad to see you guys are keeping at it, with a regular shooting schedule.

A good way to not get better, is to not shoot!

Yep. That gong is perfect too. Big enough to get hits at our level, and it rings like a church bell. It's about 5 seconds from shot break til the sound comes back to us.

You should be painting it white, so you can see your hits. Challenge yourselves to keep them on the center mass of the plate.

We will try that. Even with Pappabear's Kowa, the hits are hard to see.

We can usually pick up the bullet trace at the peak of its flight, but can't see it trace onto or off the target.

I think we're bringing it into 500, 600, 700, and 800 Saturday... Next week is PB's Elk hunt. So a day of shooting at those distances will make a 400 yard elk shot a slam dunk for him.
