There is no jacket on the Barnes TSX/Tac-X line. It's a solid copper bullet, which is why it is so long for a 70gr .22cal. It is longer than a 77gr SMK (lead core)...

As to why it prefers a clean barrel, I have no clue. SMK's perform whether clean or dirty.

I can't imagine that cleaning the barrel as often as suggested here would be necessary. Maybe for the complete best in accuracy, but if accuracy was degraded beyond 2-3MOA, I don't see how this round would have been adopted as the 5.56 Optimized/Brown Tip by the military. Can't see the sneaky squirrels wanting to stop and swab their barrels between mags. I've only got limited experience with this round, mostly in working up a load, but does anybody have any high volume of fire experience?

Didn't take it that way. For clarification for others the TSX is 100% copper. The GMX is 100% gilding metal (copper alloy usually made of 95% copper and 5% zinc).

Neither bullet is jacketed or coated making them both monolithic projectiles. Skypup has seen pretty much 100% retention with the TSX. The zinc in gilding metal makes it a bit harder which means less copper fouling and presumably more brittle (albeit marginally) which is probably why Hornady states 95% retention figures.

I apologize if this has been mentioned already. In 28 pages I couldn't find it, if it has been.

Will ASYM's 70gr TSX loading fit in a Lancer L5 AWM? I'm looking to switch to this round as a general defensive and hunting round, but I have worries that it won't fit in my 10 round Lancer L5 mag I use as a hunting magazine. If it doesn't I'll probably just buy another magazine. Are there any magazines that we can verify it does NOT fit in, and which magazines can we verify that it DOES fit in?

    Thanks

CORRECTION: Initially requested info on wrong mag. I need info pertaining to Lancer L5 10rnd mag, not a Tango Down ARC 10rnd mag.

Works just fine in all my magpul magazines
"Why "zombies"? Because calling it 'training to stop a rioting, starving, panicking, desperate mob after a complete governmental financial collapse apocalypse' is just too wordy." or in light of current events: training to stop a rioting, looting, molotov cocktail throwing, skinny jeans wearing, uneducated bunch of lemmings duped by, or working directly for, a marxist organization attempting to tear down America while hiding behind a race-based name

Their loading looks to be no longer than Silver State Armory's or my own, and both loads fit in standard 30rd Lancer L5 AWMs. Unless the 10rd mag is very, very different in terms of construction, I'd say it's likely there shouldn't be a problem.

For those looking to pick up some 70gr TSX but cannot find any factory loads, Stan Chen Customs is having a sale on their 70gr TSX. Normally 72$ per 50 round box but is on sale for 56$ for 50 round box and if you use code VET you get free shipping.

Great opportunity to pick up a couple boxes for designated hunting load.

ASYM 70gr TSX COSMETIC SECONDS are available for $54.37 per box. ASYM usually has coupon codes active, AND they offer military/LE/First Responder discounts. Mil/LE/FR discounts are -very- nice, and stack with the coupon codes. Email them for details. I ordered 250 rounds for less than $1/rnd shipped.

Barnes VOR-TX 55gr TSX is available for $.66/rnd after rebate.

Buy 200 rounds for $200 shipped, get 100 rounds free from the Barnes rebate.
