Vickers sling - padded or non-padded

    Hi Everyone,

I ordered the IWC Micro Mount-N-Slot QD to install in my middy 16" bcm upper. I've got the CTR with a QD slot in the stock. I've been reading about slings and am thinking about the Vickers sling with the QD's sewn into it and have some questions:

    1. I saw there was a coupon code for 50% off last year sometime, does BFG do this from time to time if I wait? I'm not in a huge hurry if I can save some $$$.

    2. I read a post about the padded being less adjustable. How important is this? My rifle is <7lbs so I'm not sure how important padding is. My uses are mostly range so I don't see myself wearing the sling for long periods of time.

    Thanks,

    Alan

I have both. I prefer the padded over non padded for general use. Never really noticed a difference in adjustability.

Lots of information on slings here.

I do not like the padded unless the gun is extremely heavy (10+ lbs) and going to be slung a lot. The bulk is a major tradeoff IME and I'd prefer the unpadded.

Well, we go back to "mission drives the gear train". If you are going to be carrying the gun a lot and/or the gun is on the heavy side I say go with the padded version.

    Funny how that works... ;-)

I prefer a padded sling. I unfortunately spend far more time carrying my rifle than shooting it though.

I just got the padded version. I like it, its going on one of my AR's. I got the version with the QD rings already installed. No noticeable adjustment problems. I have 2 other VTAC slings and I like how the Vickers sling does not have a "slack" loop created when the sling is tightened.

With the entire selection of Blue Force Gear slings available to me, I have a Padded VCAS on every single one of my rifles/carbines that will accept a two point sling. I think the same is true of everyone else in the office.

Having used both, I prefer the padded.

My work gun has a non-padded version because I keep it coiled up a lot. All of my training/course slings are the padded version.

I never noticed a difference in the ability to adjust. I go with padded now all the time, it makes a difference on long drawn out incidents, searches, and even multi-day classes and some training. When you can have the choice of either one, I really don't know why some would steer away from comfort. The weight difference is neglible at best.
